iPill microprocessor to the rescue – by Phillips

Posted on November 12, 2008 by admin Under Technology · 1 Comment

After more than a year we can finally say that Phillips really turned the iPill from concept to reality. I don’t know how many people still remember this product considering that it was patented such a long, long time ago but we can say for certain that it really is very useful. The iPill is a capsule the size of a regular pill that has an incorporated microprocessor that contains and delivers drugs in the exact place where they need to act in order to obtain a benefic result for the user. This works due to the fact that the microprocessor keeps permanent contact with the medical equipment that can trace its position in the body. It therefore reduces dosage, as the amount needed is pumped in the correct location, the drug is therefore more powerful and side effects are prevented. The product is in fact ready to be released on the market but Phillips has decided to improve the design before distributing it. It will help but I’m not that sure that I’m willing to get that entire nanotech in me just yet. I’ll pass on this one for the moment.
