Reasoning Behind 160 Character Texting Abilities

Many people have wondered why they are only given the amount of 160 characters for their text messaging abilities and many more are frustrated by this amount. It seems that many years ago a communication researcher known as Friedham Hillebrand developed the standards for cellular devices sending and receiving abilities. This included the amount of characters sent and received within text messages.
As these standards became utilized more and more it became soon a rule for all cellular companies to utilize this amount globally so that no company was out doing the others with the texting capabilities. Some associations utilize less then 160 characters while some use the maximum, but this will depend on the cellular company that you choose your services with.
With the rapid growth in popularity for text messaging people wish that they could have more space, but at this time 160 characters should be sufficient. If not it is easy enough to send multiple text messages and most cellular companies offer unlimited text messaging plans so it shouldn’t affect the amount you can send without worrying about a large bill coming in.
The reason the amount of 160 characters was placed was due to the fact that when this feature first came into use it wasn’t overly popular but as cellular phones became more advanced it became the new way of using them. More people utilize text messaging over actually calling as it can be done just about anywhere and won’t disrupt others in the area by talking out loud.
Friedham Hillebrand has become a modern day hero with this ability for cellular phones especially with the vast amount of popularity that goes along with it. Now it’s rare that you’d find a cellular phone without text messaging ability and if you do it’s probably really old and one of the first models of cellular phones.
