Heads-up: The HTC Touch HD takes on the iPhone 3G!

It was very much on the cards. After incorporating a 3.8 inch WVGA screen which hogs up the front part of the phone and similar looks to the iPhone 3G, it was just a matter of time before the HTC Touch HD was compared with the iPhone 3G. However, we’ve now got both the phones ‘sitting’ side-by-side in order to see whether the HTC Touch HD can knock over the iPhone 3G.

Quite obviously, it’s the 3.8 inch WVGA touch screen which takes all the plaudits from people who first see the HTC Touch HD. However, there is a hint of irony in the fact that the monstrous WVGA display is trying to steal the show from the 5 megapixel camera, which is a first from HTC. Along with a humongous spec-sheet which includes 3G (HSDPA) data connectivity, GPS, Wi-Fi, the HTC Touch HD makes no bones about the fact that it plans to take the bull (in this case, the iPhone 3G) by the horns this season.

The HTC Touch HD borrows the sleek looks of the iPhone 3G and spices it up with a specs-sheet which is typical of HTC phones. The normal VGA display of the HTC Touch Diamond and HTC Touch Pro is much more crispier and brighter than that of the iPhone 3G (although the iPhone 3G trumps with better performance under sunlight), so it goes without a question that the huge 3.8 inch version of the VGA touch screens (which becomes WVGA) beats the iPhone 3G’s 3.5 inch display hands down.

However, on the other side, there’s the iPhone 3G’s more sophisticated user-interface. The iPhone 3G, with the multi – touch functionality, continues to run down all of its competitors when it comes to enhancing the whole user experience. The strong-point of the iPhone 3G used to be in its OS, the big display and its eye-catching looks, but with the HTC coming with its massive 3.8 inch baby, the iPhone 3G has been left to fight using its UI as the sword!

No doubt, the iPhone 3G has had plenty of duels with phones on the basis of features, but the phone continues to astound with its simply fabulous looks. However, the HTC Touch HD looks just as good, has a cooler display and also knocks down all the other smartphones with its specs-sheet.

It all comes down to 2 factors: better features or better UI. Which one will sway you?
