Do You Think Sony Ericsson is Up Against the iPhone? Idou!

The Mobile World Congress, which was held at Barcelona this year, is surely the biggest show on phones and other portable and wireless gadgets and of course the most happening one with tons of parties and plenty of juicy product launches. While I got into the super-bash held by Sony Ericsson, I was able to get a scoop of the new SE Walkman phone, the W995 and of course “just one more thing.” That one more thing also happens to be code-named, Idou. The Idou, which I keep mis-typing as iDou, will not make an appearance till the second semester of this year and it can actually be called a sibling of the iPhone with its cool 3.5 inch touch screen and of course with a slightly biased focus on entertainment. O and did I forget to mention that it has one not-so-iPhone feature: a 12.1 megapixel camera equipped with a flash!
The Idou, which will take up another name when it makes its way into the market, runs the open-source next-generation version of the Symbian OS. It also happens to be part of one of Sony Ericsson’s most happening initiatives: “Entertainment Unlimited.” Although the details of this initiative are very vague, all we know is that it all about a very cool fusion of entertainment and communication. Aside from that, SE was not too chatty about specs and features. And we are also not so sure about whether the interface is multi-touch, all we know is that it is “full touch” though.
