More Efficient “Urban Car” Presented in the UK

A new “Urban Car” had its official public presentation in London a couple of weeks ago. Its inventors, the Riversimple company team, claim that the model is the best of its kind so far, being more energy saving and environmentally friendly than all its market competitors. In fact, the engineers promised the car will emit no more than 30 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer. This means that the new model’s emissions will be more than two thirds lower than those of its existing greenest rival.
Creators have spent more than nine years and a large amount of money to equip the super car with its green-friendly features. The lead engineer and founder of Riversimple, Hugo Spowers, explains that the team has focused on taking the best of the existing technologies and incorporating them into the car, rather than focusing on new research and inventions. The Riversimple Urban Car is powered by hydrogen fuel cells and incorporated into four electrical motors. These motors allow for the energy, emitted when the break is hit, to be accumulated and stored within the car’s system. The efficient storage of power provides for 80 percent of the necessary energy for the acceleration. It also adds to the relief of the hydrogen cells.
The engineering company needs extra funding to go into preliminary and real-life situation testing. So, the market premier of the Riversimple Urban Car cannot be predicted in time with certainty. But as Hugo Spowers, formerly engineering racing car models, and the grandson of Porsche’s founder, providing the main funding, are behind the project, it is expected to have success. Riversimple plans to license the technology of its car’s production to other manufacturers, which is an innovative business solution in this field. However, this might be the key to triumph.
The Urban Car is predicted to cost around £200 ($330) per month. The hydrogen fuel expenses will be 15 pence (25 cents) per mile.
