koenigsegg_quant-topshotLast March 3, attendees of the Geneva Motor Show got the chance to have a look at the Koenigsegg Quant which happens to be a super electric car running on solar power and having four seats. Although the name is a little off-the-hook and the looks are quite abnormal, the Koenigsegg has promised that it will be the car of tomorrow.

The Koenigsegg Quant is a product brought out from a joint venture with the pioneers of accumulator and photovoltaic technology, NLV Solar AG. Not only does it assure users of a high-mileage but it is also supposed to be very fun too. Although the model shown in Geneva was just a prototype, the Koenigsegg is actually supposed to be racking themselves over a fully-operational model which is to come out for scrutiny sometime later towards this year.

The forward-looking moves in the storage and generation of electric power, added on to the futuristic, aerodynamic Koenigsegg engineering and design will actually help gear up the NLV Quant to get the FAES charged up to full capacity in about 20 minutes while providing the vehicle with a fantastic 500 kilometers range. Also the extra power input from the thin-flm, invisible, photovoltaic coating which covers the entire car’s body will help increase the potential range too.

The undoubtedly ingenious design of Koenigsegg provides a very special blend of “to-die-for” looks and of course as much space as that of a luxury traditional sedan. Further, the car aims to comfortably carry four reasonably large adults while featuring a very spacious boot behind. The NLV Quant’s gull-wing door is surely something which differentiates it from all four-seaters crowding the market. While being stylish, the doors also make the car much more ergonomic, without the need of B-pillars. Plenty of easy access is provided to rear and front passenger seats alike. Also the rear side and front windows can be opened and closed separately by the passengers. It is only because of this feature that the windows can be opened and closed freely despite there being only one door for a side.

The NLV Quant gains its power from dual electrical AC induction electric. Also the two-motor design helps get rid of the need for neither bevel gears nor even a differential. This has helped simplify the lay-out which provides both controlled and constant power proportioning, be it in coast or drive mode.

The car is expected to gross around 1780kg in weight which is quite light when giving consideration to the facts that the car is actually powered by batteries, luxury performance and is a four-seater car. As mentioned before, this can be attributed to the twin-motor installation with a weight of roughly just 140 kg and gives a 512 hp output and of course715nm maximum torque letting the Quant throw out 0-100km/h in just 5.2 seconds and of course the 275 km/h as the top speed. The low weight can also be attributed to the carbon-fiber monotube and of course the FAES which weighs 450 kg and is made up of non-hazardous materials.

The NLV Quant is sure proof that it is possible to bring out cutting-edge super cars which provide comfort, speed and enjoyment with little or no cost to the environment at all. Also given the volatile nature of oil-based fuels, it has also set an example of the implementation of the future’s mobile energy technology. Further this new super car also attempts to reinforce the position of Koenigsegg at the forefront of high-end, innovative, automotive manufacture and design.
